![]() I take that to mean my doctrinal beliefs. I believe
that mankind is basically sinful, that is, we have all fallen short of God's
purpose for us in the things we think, say, and do. Man's natural state is one
of rebellion against God. We are doomed for a life that is pointless, and an
eternal afterlife that is devoid of anything good unless we surrender our life
to God by accepting Jesus, God's Son, as our righteousness.
There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved. We can't be "good" enough, we can't earn enough "points," and we can't do enough to earn our way into God's heaven. Compared to God's holiness, our "good" works are like filthy rags! Only the work that Jesus did will save us. Only faith in Jesus will save us from our sin. We cannot even boast about our faith, because God gives us that, too! (Notice I did not say "belief." The demons believe too, and yet they are doomed.) God has given everyone a "measure" of faith. There is no one alive that cannot be saved. We have free will. We choose God, or we choose to "do it on our own." If we want to have fellowship with God and have his peace and purpose in our lives, we must surrender ourselves to Jesus, based on the work He did. He lived a sinless life, took upon himself our sin on the cross, died and was resurrected on the third day according to the scriptures. There were many (hundreds) of eyewitnesses that publicly attested to this fact. In the court of law, eyewitnesses are given the highest weight in evidence. God will not love you less, or love you more, based on anything you can do. This is not to say that God is indifferent to what we do. Au contraire! We should seek to please God, and the only way to do it is by faith in Jesus. Salvation frees us from the bondage of earning anything. It is a gift of God. But God would like us to have a fulfilled and purposeful life. This pleases Him. He created us to worship Him, help fulfill the Great Commission, and serve one another using our physical abilities (body), talents (soul), and gifts (spiritual). Before we can do any of these things in a way that pleases God, we need to be saved! |
Q: Tell us about when you were "saved," when you were born into God's family. I was blessed to have grown up with a Dad
who has the spiritual gift of evangelism! My Dad is still an ambassador for
Jesus. I have been in church all my life. When I was very young I remember
privately praying the "sinner's prayer," but I didn't feel a peace with God
until the day Dad asked me this question: "If you were to die today, do you know
if you would go to heaven?"
I was eight years old at the time and had been insecure about my salvation. We prayed together and I made a confession of faith. That is when I could feel the heavy burden lifted. I wanted to be baptized. I wanted everything that God had for me. Pastor Bill Wilson baptized me (submersion) a few weeks later and I made a public statement of faith. It was fantastic! My life has never been the same since. I highly recommend it! |
