Hymn writers John Newton and Isaac Watts were worship music innovators of their day.
Who knows what God will do today if we fully embrace His will for our lives?

What Child is This?

The familiar words of the song once again poses the question to us. What kind of a king would be placed in a feeding trough in a stable?

Snowy EvergreenJoseph, Mary, and Jesus were so far from home in that tiny and seemingly insignificant town. It's hard to imagine a more humble and inconvenient birthplace than this.

So what child is this? And the bigger question is: who is Jesus?

Even during Jesus' earthly ministry, there were many different opinions about who He was:

Matthew 16:13 ¶ When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

According to this passage, there seemed to be various opinions about the identity of Jesus. Not suprisingly, there are still various opinions today. There are even some that won't acknowlege that He even existed despite the overwhelming historical accounts to the contrary. But let us return now to the diciples in the scripture. What did they think?

Mathew 16:15-17 He saith unto them, "But whom say ye that I am?"

And Simon Peter answered and said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

And Jesus answered and said unto him, "Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven."

According to Jesus, the truth of His identity is revealed by the Spirit of God.

Do you know Who Jesus is? If you're not sure, you can ask the Father to reveal it to you. "Why is this important anyway?" One may ask.

According to God's word, our eternal destiny relies upon our heart's answer to this basic question:

John 11:25-26 Jesus said unto her (Martha), I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

According to Jesus, the fact that we believe in Him determines our eternal destiny. We can have eternal life through Him if we believe.

So! Is he a prophet? An imposter? Or is He the Son of God, the Messiah and Saviour of mankind?

What Child is This?
Traditional:

"What Child is this, who, laid to rest,
on Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet , with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?

This, this is Christ the King,
whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, Haste to bring Him laud,
the Babe, the Son of Mary!"

What do you believe in your heart? If the Spirit of God has revealed the truth to you, praise God!

What better gift could be given this Christmas?

Acts 16:30-31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
